Litigation Alternatives in Medical Malpractice The University of South Florida and Suncoast Center for Patient Safety submits this Final Report which presents recommendations proffered by the Workgroup of Medical Malpractice Litigation Alternatives, as these relate to the implementation of the Florida Patient Safety Corporation. The final report of the Litigation Alternatives subgroup was delivered to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) on June 29, 2004. It was delivered to the Florida Patient Safety Corporation Board on July 29, 2004. FINAL_REPORT_LIT_ALT_subgroup.pdf The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, Center for Patient Safety, was charged by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) with the responsibility for measuring the quality of health care and to analyze the requirements for understanding the needs of consumers/patients in the state of Florida. A multi-disciplinary group of researchers, policy makers and patient safety leaders from the Universities of Florida, Central Florida, Miami, South Florida, Florida State University, Nova Southeastern College of Medicine was assembled. This consortium of academic and state entities in collaboration with the private sector outlined a systems-based approach patterned on successful programs in other high-risk enterprises to implement patient safety initiatives. The Medical Malpractice Litigation Alternatives report was one of a series of reports produced for AHCA by members of the consortium. One part of the Medical Malpractice Litigation Alternatives Subgroup involved a literature review and background research on litigation alternatives in healthcare as well as other industries.
