Medical Liability Reform Report

Quality Indicators for Consumers' Use in Selecting Hospitals

This is the final report of the Florida Patient Safety Network, in response to a Florida legislative mandate, Section 35 of Senate Bill 2-D during the 2003 third legislative session. Under this legislation, the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) contracted for a study to determine required information to help the public compare hospitals, based on inpatient quality indicators developed by the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. This report focused on the current and future impact of the medical liability crises on the access and availability of safe and high quality care for both citizens and visitors to our state.

Dr. Jay Wolfson and Audrey Nelson represented the University of South Florida, as well as the Suncoast Center for Patient Safety (Wolfson) and VISN 8 Patient Safety Center (Nelson) on the Florida Patient Safety Network Advisory Board.
