The Florida Health Information Center was created by the Florida Legislature to serve as a statewide Type II Center for the acquisition and dissemination of relevant, policy-oriented health services research and other information to public and private health organizations in the state. This health information website is an enhancement of the FHIC’s ability to carry out its mandate.

The rapid and unregulated proliferation of health information on the Internet makes increasingly necessary a source of reliable, objective, and credible information. The aim of the FHIC is to offer a research-based portal for inquiries into health information for use by consumers, care givers, health care providers, and staff of a variety of Florida State agencies.

Because of FHIC’s expertise and experience, we can provide linkages to navigating sources of reliable and pertinent information that best fit the widely divergent needs of the many populations we serve.  Thus, in addition to providing linkages to Federal government agencies and databases, such as CDC, HRSA, AHCPR, HCFA, NIOSH, and Florida state agency websites and online information, such as Florida's AHCA, DOI, DCFS, we will provide direct access to current research conducted by College of Public Health and other USF faculty, and will also highlight “hot topics” in public health.

The FHIC supports and will conform to evolving consensus standards on the critical evaluation of health information on the Internet, as outlined in the document Criteria for Evaluating Internet Health Information proposed by the Health Summit Working Group. For further information about these standards, please see the website,
